Scotland 'uses less efficient lighting than rest of the UK'

A new study has found that Scotland uses less energy efficient lighting compared to other countries in the UK.

Research by the Energy Saving Trust found that a third of households use low-energy light bulbs, compared to around a half of English electricity consumers.

The Scotsman reports that around two-thirds of people in Northern Ireland make use of the efficient lighting, while nearly 45 per cent in Wales also use the bulbs.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mike Thornton, the director of the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland, said: "By switching to energy-saving light bulbs, you can save money and help the environment as well, without compromising on the look and feel of your home.

"If you changed all your remaining bulbs to energy-saving ones over the course of their lifetime, they will save you £600."

A new report published by the Carbon Trust urged charities and not-for-profit organisations to use energy efficient lighting along with other measures to lower their energy bills.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18559933-ADNFCR
